George “Roger” Jurgens, age 80, of South Haven, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fairhaven with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairhaven Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to the service, Friday at the church. A prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
George Roger Jurgens was born June 9, 1931 in Grove Lake to George and Gertie (Forney) Jurgens. George was baptized on August 2, 1931 and confirmed on September 12, 1944. On July 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Martha Hillstrom at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fairhaven. George worked as a milk truck driver before becoming self employed as a dairy farmer. After retiring from the dairy farm, George bought Belgian Horses and loved working with them, often giving sleigh and hay rides. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and a former member of the Fairhaven Lion’s Club. George served as a Sunday school teacher, was on the Church Council, served on the local school board and served as the Fairhaven Township Supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Roland & his wife Betty of Clearwater, Robert Jurgens & his significant other Cindy Lincoln of South Haven, Kathleen & husband Darrel Kotila of Litchfield and Susan Froelich of Fargo, ND; sisters, Bernice Carsten of Glenwood and Jeanette Rohloff of Buffalo; twelve grandchildren, Shannon, Stacy, Stephanie, Corinne, Crystal, Catherine, Jennifer, Candace, Daniel, Rachael, Matthew and Heather; fifteen great grandchildren, Naomi, Jack, Delainy, Sawyer, Hayden, Gunner, Gretta, Gillda, Jayante, Quinten, Kyza, Kailee, Preston, Wesley and Isabelle. He is preseded in death by his parents, Gertie and George; sisters, Augusta Anderson and Pearl Elwood; and brothers, Donald and Clinton Jurgens.
The pallbearers will be Kenny, Dennis and Sheri Ruehle, Keith, Brandon, and Justin Brinkman. The honorary pallbearers will be Tom Boelz, Ronald “Butch” Seth, Jake Seth and William Pramann. Laura Thurk will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care, Kimball.
