Paul A. Schermer, age 54, of Maple Lake, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 30, 2016.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Silver Creek Community Church, Silver Creek, Minnesota with Pastor Luke Baehr officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, near Silver Creek. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, both at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.

Paul Alan Schermer was born March 30, 1962 in Buffalo, Minnesota to Raymond and Lucile (Vandergon) Schermer. Paul grew up in rural Maple Lake and attended elementary school in Silver Creek. He then attended Annandale High School where he graduated with the Class of 1980. Following high school, he furthered his education at St. Cloud State University, before joining his family dairy farm operation. On September 28, 1985, he was united in marriage to Rhonda Kay Geisinger at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale. Together, Paul and Rhonda raised their two children, Christopher and Stephanie. Paul began his construction career working for Bruce Stuhr Construction before starting his own business, Paul Schermer Construction. He loved to build custom homes alongside his business partner, Ken Braun, and teaching his son Chris the trade at Wood Castle Homes. His most recent business endeavor was CAP Custom Homes, with his son, Chris and son-in-law, Alex, whom he also admired like his own son. He was so proud to have been a part of building his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Alex’s new home. Paul had a strong, deep faith with his Lord and was an active member of the Silver Creek Community Church where he served as a deacon multiple times. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed fishing, playing on his computer, motorcycling, pontooning, and cooking, especially on the grill. He was an extensive reader and always looked forward to Sunday evenings eating pizza and watching movies with his family.  The friendships he developed over the years became very important to him. Above all, Paul cherished the time he was able to spend with his family. He was a devoted husband to Rhonda, loving father to Christopher and Stephanie, and proud Grandpa to Jakob, Maverick, Dakota, and soon-to-be, Baby Boy Evavold. He adored the time he spent with Jakob flying kites, roughhousing with Maverick, was ecstatic at the birth of his first granddaughter, Dakota, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Baby Boy Evavold. Paul was so much to so many people, and genuinely gave of his time and efforts to those he loved.

Paul is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rhonda; children and their spouses, Christopher and Marissa Schermer of Monticello, and Stephanie and Alex Evavold of Clearwater; 4 grandchildren, Jakob, Maverick, Dakota, and Baby Boy Evavold; siblings, Sandra (Jonathan) Thomas of Maple Lake, Terryl (Susan) of Annandale, and Heidi (Kevin) Greniger of Maple Lake; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Gary & Beryl Geisinger of Annandale; sister-in-law, Jennifer McCollow of Bloomington; brother-in-law, Jeff (Diana) Geisinger of Annandale; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Becky Foreman.

Christopher Schermer, Alex Evavold, Doug Smith, Wayne Johnson, Mike Nelson, Lee Dehmer, and Ken Braun will serve as pallbearers. Sandy Thomas, Heidi Greniger, Bethanie Raiche, and Don DeBoer will provide music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
