Vernis J. Fischer, age 86, of Kimball died and joined her Lord in Heaven on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kimball with Rev. David Milz officiating. Burial will follow at Maine Prairie Cemetery, Kimball. Visitation will be held 3-7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service, Monday, both at the church. A prayer service will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Vernis Jeanette Fischer was born March 8, 1929 in South Haven to Louis and O’Tillia (Schmidt) Muehring. She was raised in the South Haven and Fairhaven areas and graduated from Kimball High School with the Class of 1946. After graduation, Vernis went to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in St. Paul until 1950. On September 24, 1950 she was united in marriage to Arthur Alvin Fischer at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fairhaven. Together, they farmed and raised their 6 children in the Kimball area. Vernis was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball. She also took an active role in the LWML group at church, serving as President and Treasurer, as well as zone President for the St. Cloud LWML.
Vernis is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alvin of Kimball; children, Gail (David) Feneis of Eden Prairie, Bruce (Sharon) Fischer of Kimball, Rita (Ron) Mason of Earlham, IA, Faye (Gary) Mrozek of St. Cloud, Mona (Dan) Libbesmeier of Kimball, and Brad (DeeAnn) Fischer of Kimball; 18 grandchildren, Angie, Mark, Lindsay, Christopher, Jacob, Joshua, Erin, Eric, Lauren, Randy, Emily, Scott, Jason, Tom, Brianna, Mitch, Alex, Olivia; 7 step grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; siblings Vernone Wylie of New Ulm, Arnita (Curt) Rieger of Richfield, and Dennis (Pat) Muehring of St. Cloud; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Vernis was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, sister Linda Hoffman and brother, Harlan Muehring.
The pallbearers will be six of her grandsons, Christopher Fischer, Mark Feneis, Eric Ruehle, Randy Mrozek, Scott Libbesmeier, and Mitch Fischer will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Kimball.
