United States Marine Corps Corporal Zachary R. Kunkel, age 22, of Camp Pendleton, California died Saturday December 20, 2014 in San Marcos, California as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale. Burial will follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale and one hour prior to the service, Tuesday, at the church.
Zachary Robert Kunkel was born September 29, 1992 in St. Cloud to Timothy and Brenda Kunkel. He grew up in Kimball and graduated from Dassel Cokato High School with the Class of 2011. In 2012, Zach joined the United States Marine Corps; he served with the 9th Communication Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA. Zach enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, paintball, riding motorcycle with the ILL RIDERZ Temecula, CA Chapter, playing video games and spending time in the outdoors.
He is survived by his mother Brenda Kunkel of St. Joseph; father & step mother Timothy & Janelle Kunkel of South Haven; sisters Jennifer Mrnak & her husband Matthew of Becker and Ashley Kunkel & her fiancé Todd Schlangen of St. Augusta; niece Eilidh Mrnak; step siblings Ryan, Tyler and Hailey Ergen; grandparents Mike Nierengarten of St. Cloud and Larry & Teresa Kunkel of Kimball; and great grandmother Vera Knoll of Watkins. Zach is preceded in death by his grandmother Eileen Nierengarten; great grandparents Vince & Leona Kunkel, Clem Knoll, Florence Nierengarten and Ed & Bertha Sinclair.
Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
