Wilfred Henry Hentges

Wilfred H. Hentges, age 98, of Cold Spring, formerly of Kimball, died Friday, March 10, 2023, at CentraCare Health Paynesville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2023, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Kimball with Fr. Thomas Olson as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Anne Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Wilfred Henry Hentges was born May 11, 1924, in Forest City, Minnesota to Mathias "Math" and Lena (Bauer) Hentges. As a young boy, Wilfred moved with his family to a farm in Fairhaven Township. He attended country school until the 8th grade, when he then began farming with his father. Wilfred honorably served his country in the United States Army. Upon his discharge, he returned to the farm. On May 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Gavin in St. Cloud. They made their home on the farm, where they also raised their five children. In addition to farming, Wilfred also worked for Cold Spring Granite and also as a mud tender for various construction companies. Wilfred enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. He also liked to try his luck every so often at a casino or play a game of cards with his family.

He is survived by his children, Bernice (Richard) Ashfeld of Minneapolis, Judy Ahles of St. Cloud, David (Mary) Hentges of Brooklyn Park, Sandra (Tom) Flugaur of St. Louis Park and Wayne (Julie) Hentges of South Haven; 11 grandchildren Steven, Stephanie, Kevin, Neil, Linda, Dale, Tina, Leann, Matthew, Jennifer and Katy; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Caroline Mattila; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; son-in-law, Robert Ahles; and siblings, Nicholas, Viola, Andrew, Ervin, Stella, Alfred, Marie, and Allen.

Wilfred's grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Kimball.
