Shirley Ella Gertrude Zipoy was born April 1, 1935 in Rockford, Minnesota to George and Gladys (Triplett) Marohn. As the result of her mother's passing at a young age, Shirley grew up in several communities, before settling in Minneapolis. As an adolescent, Shirley resided with Edna and Walter Blom, whom she deeply cherished. She attended school at Washburn High School in Minneapolis, where she graduated with the Class of 1954. On July 14, 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to Allan "Zip" Zipoy at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. While Allan served in the military, they saw many parts of the country. They resided in Minneapolis for ten years, before settling in Kimball. The two were happily married for 54 years. While her two sons were growing up, Shirley worked as an administrative assistant at St. John's University. After Shirley retired, she cared for her grandchildren and wintered in Arizona. Shirley was a joyful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kimball and participated in the choir for several years. In her spare time, she enjoyed music, reading, shopping, drinking coffee with loved ones, and traveling. Above all, Shirley cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her two sons and their wives, Tim & Susan, and Tom & Sarah, both of Kimball; grandchildren, Hannah (Matt) Schull, Ted, Ben, John and Julia Zipoy; siblings, Janice (Bud) Jay and Stan (Darcy) Marohn; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allan "Zip" (2010), and brothers, Elwood and Gerald Marohn.
Ted, Ben, John, Julia Zipoy, Hannah and Matt Schull will serve as pallbearers.
