Shirley A. Gunnary, age 75, of Buffalo, formerly of French Lake, died Saturday, December 28, 2019 at her home at The Glenn in Buffalo.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, French Lake with Pastor DelRoy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, French Lake. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Shirley Ann Gunnary was born March 4, 1944 at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Burton and Victoria (Shimshock) Clark. She attended the Standish Elementary School, followed by Lowell Junior High, where she helped in the school library. She then graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. During her high school years, she worked at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital. On June 29, 1963, Shirley was united in marriage to James Charles Gunnary in Minneapolis. They were married for 41 years and were blessed with three sons, Emil Burton, Joseph Charles, and Peter James. Shirley worked at the Ebenezer Nursing Home, as well as Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Golden Valley. During this time, Shirley was also active in 4-H with her sons. Later on she worked for Home Care & Hospice for 10 years, followed by PCA work, and also sold Tupperware. Shirley eventually moved to Buffalo and her interested in singing grew, and she joined the Golden Aires singing group. Shirley's hobbies were tending to her flower gardens, raising Lhasa Apso dogs and making candy mints for graduations, anniversaries, and weddings. She also enjoyed fishing, ceramics, wrestling, and socializing. In her later years, Shirley formed a special friendship with Frank Osborne, who provided companionship and a mutual love of gardens.
Shirely is survived by her three sons, Emil of Annandale, Joseph of Annandale & Milwaukee, WI, and Peter (Natalia) of Annandale; grandsons, Jeremey Quittschreiber of Hermantown and Aleksander Gunnary of Annandale; extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Burton and Victoria Clark; and brother, Robert Clark.
Doug Triplett, Bill Dolzal, John Chapman, Greg Goltz, Aaron Johnson and Corey Gunnary will serve as casket bearers. Paul Waataja, Frank Osborne, and Colin Alama will serve as honorary casket bearers. Jessica Lantto and Margaret Groop will provide music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
