Sheila J. Winter was born March 15, 1956 in Freeport to Raynold and Catherine (Klein) Winter. She graduated from Maple Lake High School with the Class of 1974. On May 20, 1978, she was united in marriage to Richard Benson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale. She was an active member at St. Timothy Catholic Church, serving as an Eucharistic Minister, on the Ladies Auxiliary, making visits to homebound members, volunteering at the Parish School and spending time with her Lord in the Adoration Chapel along with her group, 7 Sisters. Sheila was also a former member of the Ex-POW Auxiliary in St. Cloud. Sheila was a beloved member of the Crustys, enjoyed gambling, playing bingo, getting her nails done, reading with Tugboat on her lap, watching Survivor, and traveling. She was a faithful supporter of her children; in the rare event that she could not make one of their activities, Sheila made sure to have someone else present in her place. Whenever her children asked something of her, Sheila would not grant them their request until they told her "You're the best mom in the world. You're wonderful. You're great. You're fantastic. You're the best mom in the world." Sheila was not only the best mom, she was also the jackpot of all grandmothers; she loved every minute that she could spend with her grandchildren and did not have the ability to tell them no.

She is survived her husband of 43 years, Rick of Maple Lake; children, Angela (Kevin) Conn of Allentown, PA, Katie Graham (David Wagner, fiance) of Hastings, and Lindsay (Ashley) Verdeck of Eagan; grandchildren, Logan, Calvin, Spencer, Madelyn, Kendra; future grandchildren, Virginia and Carter; mother, Catherine "Kitty" of Maple Lake; siblings, Sandy Brooks (Wally Winsor) of Champlin, Steve (Pat) Winter of Custer, SD, Scott (Jean) Winter of Grand Rapids, Sharon Fertig of Buffalo, and Suzanne Daniels of Robbinsdale; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray; infant sister, SueEllen; and brother-in-law, Sheldon.

Krista Elsenpeter and Sarah Goelz will provide music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
