Sally Ahrendt Obituary

Sally A. Ahrendt, age 89, of Hanover, formerly of Annandale and Chokio, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 18, 2021 under the care of Heartland Hospice.

Public visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale. A private Memorial Service will be held with Chaplain Pamela Nickel officiating. A burial will be held at a later date in Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City, South Dakota. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the funeral home's website.

Sally Ann Ahrendt was born December 5, 1931 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Claude and Rubye (Thompson) Schmidt. Sally spent her childhood years in Lead, SD, and graduated from Lead High School in 1950. She went on to graduate from Black Hills State Teacher's College in 1960 with a degree in History as well as Elementary Education. She taught for two years in Rapid City, SD and 25 years for Chokio-Alberta schools, retiring in 1991. Sally was a devoted educator, going above and beyond to ensure her 1st and 2nd grade students had a strong foundation in reading, writing, and math. Following her retirement from teaching, Sally worked as a clerk for the Tri-County Co-op convenience store in Chokio as well as event catering with friends, Bev & Al Seiferman.

Sally was a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Chokio, enjoying the fellowship, quilt-making and spiritual support provided by the amazing ladies of the congregation.  Sally loved to travel, taking many trips with her daughter to visit her sons wherever their military careers took them.  Trips to Alaska, Europe, Australia, and many other points of the globe were taken with family and friends upon retirement. Her favorite past-times were reading, playing cards, bowling league, exercising in the Chokio pool, daily walks, and later putting together puzzle after puzzle to strengthen her eyes against macular degeneration.  Above all else, Sally's greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; sharing in their accomplishments and helping them through life’s journey however she could.

Sally is survived by her children, Michael Haynes of Texarkana, TX, and Laurie (Kevin) Miller of South Haven; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Haynes Moses of Donnelly; 8 grandchildren, Mindy, Christy, Matthew, Mercy, Mary, Rachel, Renae, and Rosalie; great-grandchildren, Aryn, Lee, Garrett, Destiny, Lydia, Marc, Nikolai, Milla, Jackson, Micheal, Matthew, Kirsten, Elizabeth, Joe, Ailie, and Whitney; siblings, Robert Schmidt of Anthem, AZ and Joan Price of New Market, MD; as well as nieces, nephews, other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Rubye Schmidt; her son, David Haynes; sister-in-law, Prudence Schmidt; brother-in-law, Coy Price; and mother-in-law, Clarabell Haynes.
