Roger Merlin Hermes

Roger M. Hermes, age 86, of Annandale, died Friday, July 10, 2020 at the Annandale Care Center.

A Graveside Funeral Liturgy will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale. Please bring a chair and a face covering. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree or make a donation to your favorite wildlife conservation organization.

Roger Merlin Hermes was born November 26, 1933 in Annandale, Minnesota to Charles and Hazel (Goodno) Hermes. Roger grew up in Annandale where he attended school. He briefly attended St. Cloud Cathedral, before returning to Annandale High School and graduating with the Class of 1952. After graduation, Roger moved to Mississippi for a year to work on the oil rigs. He entered the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean War. While in the Army, Roger was stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge, Roger returned to the Annandale area. On November 22, 1958 Roger was united in marriage to Shirley A. Leukuma in Minneapolis. They made their home in Annandale where they raised their four children. Roger worked construction and was a member of the IUOE Local 49. As an outdoorsman, Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He liked to treasure hunt by going to auctions, garage sales, antique stores, and flea markets. Roger's ability to share stories will be missed.

Roger is survived by his children, Kathy Hermes of Duluth, Brian Hermes of Annandale, and Sheila (Bruce) Hoernemann of Ortonville; 5 grandchildren, Rachel and Jacob Hoernemann, and Andrew, Nicholas, and Carlie Hermes; special friend, Lila Paumen; his beloved cat, Trooper; and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel; wife, Shirley; daughter, Susan; brother, Wayne; and step-brother, Gary.

His grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
