Randy Michael Fabel was born August 5, 1959,in Breckenridge, Minnesota to Gary and Marilyn (Olson) Fabel. He grew up in Kimball, moving to Brainerd to complete high school. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1978. While in high school, Randy was a four-sport athlete, and was a 1,000 point scorer in basketball. He then furthered his education at St. Cloud State University to obtain his bachelor's degree, while also continuing his basketball career. He also led by example, instilling hard work and grit in his family. With Randy, a project was never too big or too small. His way of showing he cared was through the work he could do with his hands, and the knowledge he shared. When not helping with a project, Randy could be found at his favorite place, his cabin on Sylvan Lake, near Backus. Randy had a great sense of humor, quick wit, and never was one to shy away from telling a joke.
