Mildred Lorraine Nelson was born on February 25, 1923, in Cokato, Minnesota to Fred and Anna (Hurula) Nelson. She attended 1st - 8th grades at Temperance Corner Country School and graduated from Cokato High School Class of 1940. She then graduated from Minneapolis Business College in 1941. She lived and worked for a time in California; she then moved to North Minneapolis in order to care for her father. She was employed for many years as a legal secretary for several Minneapolis attorneys. Upon retiring, she moved from Minneapolis to her home on French Lake, where she spent the majority of her retirement years. In 2017, she moved to her current home at Centennial Villa in Annandale.

Millie was single her whole life, but her nieces and nephews were her children, and they were as close as any children could be. They loved their time with her, and she was always glad to see them. Their families became a big part of Millie's life.

Millie lived life to the fullest. She traveled a lot with trips to Hawaii, New Zealand, Finland, Mexico, as well as throughout the United States. But her home on French Lake was her favorite place to be. She loved hosting family, friends, and neighbors, first at her "egg carton" cabin and then at her new home on the lake. Millie was the perfect host - she would greet you with a "highball" or a glass of white wine when you arrived and often served her special chicken dinner. She really enjoyed family get-togethers - reunions, picnics, holidays, birthdays, showers, weddings, etc. At wedding dances, no matter who her partner was, they were always "the best couple on the floor". In her later years she became an avid fan of vintage TV game shows. She loved playing cribbage and doing crossword puzzles. The cribbage board was always ready when someone would come to visit. Knitting was a passion of Millie's. Many of her relatives and friends are using her hand made dish cloths and scrub pads.

Millie enjoyed her last years at Centennial Villa. She was loved by the staff, and she loved them in return. She touched uncountable lives during her 99 years and will be missed by so many. To all her friends and relatives who treated her so well and to the staffs at Centennial Villa and Moments Hospice, Millie would clap her hands and say, "Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU!"

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Tyni; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anna Nelson; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mabel and Verlund Compton, Alice and Jacob Hoikka, Dorothy and Martin Lampi, and Glen Tyni; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Harriet Nelson, Harry and Ruth Nelson, Carl and Marilyn Nelson, and Donald and Bertha Nelson.
