Michael Wayne Hunt was born August 2, 1954, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Charles and Arlayne (Marquardt) Hunt. As a young child, Michael grew up on a farm south of Kimball, before his family moved to the St. Nicholas area in 1957. At the age of 12, the Hunt family moved to a farm in Fairhaven Township. Michael attended school in Kimball, graduating with the Class of 1972. He furthered his education in plumbing at St. Cloud Vocational and Technical School. On November 30, 1974, he was united in marriage to Lanette Ann Walkley. They made their home in Fairhaven Township, where they raised their 3 children. Michael worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Local 49ers. He was a lifetime member of St. Anne Catholic Church in addition to being a member of the Kimball Golf Club. Michael loved to fish and it was unusual for a day to pass in which Michael was not cleaning fish. He also enjoyed deer hunting, observing eagles, boating, golfing, woodworking, cooking on an open fire, and keeping up with his lawn and garden. Michael always cherished the time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He relished in their presence, whether being up at the cabin, playing a game of cards, attending their activities, or simply spending time with them.

Michael is survived by his three children, Ronnie (Daniel) Rose of Kimball, Dave (Kim) Hunt of South Haven and Erin (Blaine) Saukkola of Kimball; grandchildren, Melody (Jason) Unterberger, Alexis (Justin) Duevel, Brandon Shonyo, Noah Shonyo, Haylie Saukkola, and Hunter Saukkola; great-grandchildren, John, Faith, Ayla, Rugar, and Mason Unterberger, and Madison and Rylee Shonyo; brothers and sisters, Charles (Laurie) Hunt of South Haven, Karen Nelson of The Villages, FL, Charlayne (Gary) Stumm of Maple Grove, Rebecca (Rudolph) Maurer of Good Thunder, Kathryn (Kurt) Eisenbraun of South Haven, James (Lori) Hunt of South Haven and Jacquelyn Sorensen of Osakis; sister-in-law, Nancy (Kevin) Gunnerson of Kimball; and special friend, Rita Nelson of Cold Spring. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lanette; parents, Charles and Arlayne; and brother, Richard.

The casket bearers will be Brandon and Noah Shonyo, Justin Duevel, Jason and John Unterberger, and Jason Hill. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Kimball.
