John "Jack" Driste Obituary

John "Jack" Driste, age 86, of Annandale, formerly of New Hope, died Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at his home with family at his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2023, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. Kevin Magner as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery. John Nelson Driste was born November 20, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Karl and Irene (Lorsung) Driste. He grew up in North Minneapolis, and graduated from Minneapolis Vocational High School in 1954. Jack honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On December 27, 1958, Jack was united in marriage to Marilynn J. Koeneke at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Robbinsdale. Jack worked for the Heat and Frost Insulators Local #34 as a pipe insulator. Jack and Marilynn made their home in New Hope, before moving to Annandale in 1972. As Annandale residents, Jack and Marilynn immersed themselves into the community. Jack was an active member of the Annandale Care Center Board, the Annandale Park Board, and served on the Annandale City Council. Jack was an instrumental member that helped make the Annandale Rec. Park a reality; the Annandale High School baseball field is named in Jack's honor. Jack gave tirelessly of himself and his resources, and strongly believed in volunteerism and giving back. Jack was a longtime member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He enjoyed cooking, baking, and working in his wood shop. Nothing brought Jack greater happiness than being in the presence of his family.

Jack is survived by his children, Carolynn (Dan) Johnson of Andover, Susan (Ron) Traeger of Maple Grove, John (Jeanine) Driste of South Haven, and Dave (Beth) Driste of Sartell; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pat and Judy Driste; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilynn; brothers, Gerald and James Driste; and sisters, Maxine Wilken and Marijo Renstrom.

The casket bearers will be Patrick, Ryan and Ron Traeger, Emily and Megan Driste, and Dan Johnson. The Honorary casket bearers will be Mark Miller, Roger Millner, Kate Asmus, Jack Johnson, Maraya Barnes, and Amanda Dorman. St. Ignatius Music Ministry will provide music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
