Joann Katherine Hendricks was born October 8, 1937 on the family farm near Eden Valley, Minnesota to Nicholas and Clara (Dahl) Arens. As a young girl, Joann moved with her family to North Kingston, where she attended country school. Eventually she attended school in Kimball, where she graduated with the Class of 1955. Following her graduation, Joann furthered her education in Minneapolis, while working as a secretary. On June 14, 1958, Joann was united in marriage to David D. Hendricks in St. Cloud, Minnesota. They made their home in Kimball, where they raised their two children, Tammy and Lonnie. Joann worked for the Teamsters Union in St. Cloud, Severt Manufactoring in Litchfield, and the City of Kimball, before purchasing the family business, Hendricks Bus Service, in 1972. They also owned and operated Crocketts Auction Hall, which in addition to being an auction hall, provided a place for the youth to rollerskate and area couples a location to host wedding receptions. Joann believed in being active and giving back to her community, whether through the Kimball American Legion Auxiliary, the Maine Prairie Cemetery Board, the Red Hat Society, Kimball Chamber of Commerce, or other area organizations. Joann never remained idle and was always on the go. She enjoyed bowling, and sewed many items for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Joann's magnetic personality made her a joy to be around, and she was lovingly referred to as "Granny" by many. Above all, Joann treasured the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Joann is survived by her children and their spouses, Tammy and Dan Konz and Lonnie and Bev Hendricks, both of Kimball; 8 grandchildren, Christina (Kent), Kelly (Carl), James (Darcy), Emily (Kyle), Amanda (John), Brian (Katie), Joe (Blair), Eric (Heather); 16 great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Hailey, Marissa, Elizabeth, Lauren, McKenna, Morgan, Chloe, Cody, Gracie, Ella, Noah, Natalie, Evelyn, Aiden, and Owen; sisters-in-law, Carolyn McCarthy of Marion, Minnesota and Mary Jane Arens of Kimball; many nieces, nephews, other family members, employees, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; parents, Nicholas and Clara Arens; twin brother, James; brothers, Vernon (Martha) Arens and Robert Arens; sister, Phyllis (Harold) Nordstrom; and brothers-in-law, Bob McCarthy and Bernard Bliss.
Joann's grandsons will serve as urn bearers.
