Hayde Lydia Lenora Kallunki was born September 9, 1921, at home in Annandale, Minnesota to John and Olga (Kivela) Kallunki. She grew up in rural Annandale and graduated from Annandale High School in 1939. Following her graduation, Hayde worked as a seamstress for the war efforts, in addition to providing care for a family whose mother had died. On March 4, 1944, she was united in marriage to Lloyd D. Klemz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silver Creek. They had met at a dance, where Lloyd was Hayde's first and last dance partner. They made their home in St. Cloud, prior to moving to Crystal. In 1984, they returned to Annandale to make their home. While Lloyd worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Hayde stayed home to provide love and care for their children, Gary and Faye, as well as waitressed.

Hayde's faith was of utmost importance. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith. When Lloyd and Hayde moved to Annandale, they became members of Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale. She was involved with various groups including LWML and helping with funeral lunches and helping with many church activities. She was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. In support of Lloyd's career in the railroad industry, Hayde also belonged to the Railroad Womens Auxiliary.

Hayde enjoyed traveling, especially to Arizona in the winter and to Finland with Lloyd. She was a gifted seamstress and often made clothes for her children. She was an amazing cook and baker, especially her pies!
