It is with much love and sadness we mourn the death of Elizabeth Louise Segner, age 88, of Maple Lake. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at North Memorial Hospital on March 24, 2021.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Chatham Township. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home's website.
Elizabeth was born on September 14, 1932 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Leo and Rhea (Desrocher) Plude. She grew up in Dayton and graduated from Elk River High School before attending St. Cloud State Teacher's College. When she was 18 she moved to Maple Lake to become a first and second grade teacher. It was during this time she met Robert Segner. They were united in marriage on November 12, 1955 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Dayton. In 1957 they built their home on Maple Avenue in Maple Lake. Betty continued her education at St. Cloud State University, earning her Master's in Education. She devoted 36 years to teaching at Maple Lake Elementary School before her retirement in 1994. In retirement, Betty and Bob traveled the world. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, and time spent with her family. Elizabeth was an active member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church and had a deep faith.
Elizabeth will be remembered and deeply missed by her two daughters, Mary Lou (Jeff) Nygaard of Battle Lake, and Susie (John) Kruse of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Eric (Shona), Amber (Nick), Kristen (Blake), Courtney, Caitlin, and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Oakley, and Lux; brothers-in-law, Tom Segner and Lloyd Cyr; sister-in-law, Trudy Segner; and many other family members and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Segner; parents, Leo and Rhea Plude; sisters, Mary Anne Cyr and Leone Mack; brother, Leo Plude, Jr.; mother-in-law, Bernice Segner Mooney; fathers-in-law, Andrew Segner and John Mooney; brothers-in-law, James Mack and James Segner; sister-in-law, Sandra Plude; and nephew, Paul Segner.
Andy Segner, Kurt Segner, Blake Uecker, Eric Nygaard, Nick Boyd and Thomas Segner will serve as pallbearers. Krista Elsenpeter and Sarah Goelz will provide music for the service.
