Donald J. Hausken, age 86, of Annandale died Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Annandale. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday at Dingmann Funeral Chapel in Annandale with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
Donald James Hausken was born April 2, 1933 in Mantador, North Dakota to Adolph and Lydia (Wandersee) Hausken. Don grew up in Mantador until the 5th grade, when he moved with his family to Annandale. He graduated from Annandale High School with the Class of 1951. While in high school, Don was a standout 4-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball, track, and baseball, which, along with his future coaching career, landed him as the first inductee into the Cardinal Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame in 2007. After graduation, Don continued his education at Gustavus Adolphus College, graduating in 1956 with a degree in education and coaching. He was later inducted into the Gustavus Adolphus Hall of Fame. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carole Andrews, on September 9, 1955 at Annandale United Methodist Church. Don’s teaching career began in Elbow Lake, and in 1969, they returned to Annandale where he was director of Camp Chi Rho in addition to teaching physical education and health at the Annandale High School for over 20 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the building and cemetery committees. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, watching sports, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Don is survived by his children, Kendra Brown of North Branch, Kurt (Lori) of Maple Lake, Julie Roth (significant other, Mark Luostari) of Prescott, WI, Tim (Jane) of Oakdale and Jeff (fiancé, Betty) of St. Bonifacius; eight grandchildren, David, Daniel, Meghan, Michael, Matthew, Adam, Abby and Aiden; 1 great-grandchild, Arianna; sister, Maxine (Ronald) Fashant of Kimball; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons-in-law, Daniel Brown and David Roth; grandchildren, Justin, Kevin, and Christopher Brown; and siblings, Rella, Owen, Charles, Eleanor, and Kathleen.
Don’s family will serve as urn bearers. Rev. David Nelson will officiate at the service and Orma Lou Jacobsma will provide the music.
