David Borrell Obituary

David J. Borrell, age 77, of Maple Lake, died Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home in Corinna Township after living with leukemia for eight years.

Memorial and Graveside Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2020 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Cemetery in Albion Township, Annandale. Feel free to dress for the weather and bring along a lawn chair. A reception and visitation will follow from 3-7 p.m. at The Hanger at Dick and Patty Borrell's home on Hwy 12, just west of Waverly.

David Jerome Borrell was born June 11, 1943 in Cokato to Francis and Dorothy (Claessens) Borrell. He grew up in Waverly and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Waverly with the Class of 1961. He served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force; he was stationed at Beale Air Force Base in California. After his honorable discharge, he worked at National Cash Register and Herculift prior to starting his own business, Dave Borrell Refrigeration, Plumbing and Heating. His training in the Air Force served him well in his 47 years as a business owner. On December 26, 1980, he was united in marriage to Jean Verona Berg at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in Albion Township. They lived in rural Maple Lake, where they raised their family. Dave was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake, Waverly American Legion, and the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, WI.

Dave loved work and to talk; towards the end of his career, he could often be found working for an hour and socializing for a couple of hours after the job was done. He was in his element when an unusual construction dilemma arose that needed a solution. He enjoyed restoring old tractors, boats and construction equipment. Airplanes were a passion of Dave's; he had his commercial pilot's license, was an instructor to countless people out of the Maple Lake Municipal Airport and enjoyed every minute in the air.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean of Maple Lake; sons, Peter of Maple Lake and Paul (Lacey) of Big Lake; three granddaughters, Lexey, Lilly and Penny; brothers and sisters, Janet Sherman of Southfield, MI, Rose Marie (Michael) Monahan of Richland, WA, Ken (Karen), Patrick, Richard (Patty), Charlie (Lynn), Gene and Jerry (Kay) all of Waverly, and Ginny of Kirbyville, TX; and many other family members, colleagues and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Fritz and Dorothy; and brothers, Bernard and Michael.

Rev. Culynn Curtis will officiate at the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Waverly American Legion Post 305 and the United States Air Force. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
