Charles "Zeke" Koehler, Jr., age 95, of South Haven, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at his beloved lake home on Clearwater Lake.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Charles Bernhard Koehler, Jr. was born March 12, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Charles and Althea (Lohmann) Koehler. Zeke grew up in Minneapolis, and attended West High School; graduating in 1941. He furthered his education at the University of Minnesota, earning an Associate of Arts Degree. Zeke honorably served his country in the United States Navy. While stationed in the South Pacific, Zeke fought in the following battles: Guam, Palau, Leyte, Lingayen Gulf, and Okinawa, earning the Philippines Liberation bar with Amphibious patch. Upon his discharge in 1946, Zeke returned to Minneapolis. On September 8, 1956, he was united in marriage to M. Joanne Smith in Blue Earth, Minnesota. In 1955, he began his career in real estate with his uncle, G.F. Lohman, the then owner of Calhoun Realty Company. Zeke rose to majority share owner of Calhoun Realty Company, selling the business in 1980. Zeke and Joanne then moved to their lake home on Clearwater Lake. He enjoyed living on the lake and the solitude and the peace of nature.
Zeke is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joanne of South Haven; children, Fred (Signe) of Minnetonka Beach and Chip (Leslie) of Montrose; grandchildren, Annalisa (Kelsey) Mattison, Layla (Joe) Simons, Autumn and Livia Koehler; and great-grandchild, Anders Mattison. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Althea; mentor, G.F. Lohman; and many cousins, special relatives and dear friends.
