Carolyn Margaret (Vaughn) Custer

Carolyn M. Custer, age 91, of Annandale, died on March 29, 2024 at the Annandale Care Center with family by her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2024, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. Kevin Magner as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Carolyn Margaret Custer was born on July 15, 1932 in Buffalo, Minnesota to Raymond and Agnes (Janson) Vaughn. Upon her 1950 graduation from Buffalo High School, Carolyn obtained her Bachelor of Education at St. Cloud State University which lead to her ultimately achieving her Masters in Degree in education at the University of Minnesota. On July 21, 1956, she was united in marriage to Dean R. Custer in Columbia Heights. They made their home in Fridley, until moving to Cedar Lake in Annandale in 1992.

Carolyn lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for education. Carolyn dedicated herself to the field of elementary education for 35 years, most of it in Columbia Heights. Her motto of living and learning guided her approach, making every lesson a joyful experience for her students. She retired in June of 1994, leaving behind a legacy of nurturing young minds.

Outside the classroom, Carolyn found joy in traveling and playing golf after retirement. Her kindness shone through in every aspect of her life, as evidenced by her selfless act of selling her Magicloths and donating all proceeds to her grandchildren's education. Her generosity and commitment to her family were deeply admirable.

She will always be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her students, her loving spirit, and her commitment to family. May her memory continue to inspire and bring joy to all who knew and loved her.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Dean of Annandale; children, Rick (Laura) of Loretto, Dan (Kris Boege) of Nisswa, and Kathy (Dean) Dahlgren of Andover, Randy (Carrie) Wessman of Exeland, WI. 7 grandchildren, Kyle, Corie, Megan, Libby, Erik, Caitlan, and Teresa; 7 great-grandchildren Saydee, Sicily, Raymond, Harper, Avery, Addison and Baby Seidl; and sister Rosemary Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Agnes; brother Daniel, sister Geraldine; daughter-in-law Diane Custer and nephew Rick Wessman. The family would like to express a special thank you to Moment's Hospice and Annandale Care Center.

Carolyn's grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
