Carol A. Lundeen, age 84, of South Haven, died and was born into heaven on Saturday, May 28, 2022 under the tender care of her family and Allina Hospice.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven with Pastor Lori Artner officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.
Carol Ann Lundeen was born February 26, 1938 in Fairhaven to Palmer and Juanita (Nelson) Thorson. She grew up in the South Haven area, graduating from Annandale High School in 1956. The oldest girl of nine children, she helped the family by taking care of her brothers and sisters as well as working at the cafe during high school. Growing up, swimming across Lake Sylvia, playing cards for bobby pins, and going to dances were some of her favorite pastimes.
On April 13, 1957, Carol was united in marriage to Melvin A. Lundeen in South Haven. They were blessed with three children. Together, they owned and operated Lundeen Hardware Store for 28 years. Carol ran the store; including ordering merchandise, driving to Minneapolis for parts, keeping the books, and preparing their taxes. After retiring in 1994 from the hardware store, Carol continued to work part-time as a waitress at Mom's Cafe until the age of 74.
She was a member of the South Haven Fire Department Auxiliary and was a 4-H leader for many years. Carol was a life-long member of Zion United Methodist Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, married, and where she raised her children in their faith. She served as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer of the cemetery fund, financial secretary and member of the administrative board. She also cooked for the youth Easter sunrise services, church dinners, and United Methodist Women events.
She enjoyed camping in Hackensack and taking winter trips to Arizona. Carol was a wonderful cook, not needing a recipe, just an idea. She also sewed clothes for herself and her family. She liked to read, play bingo, take casino trips, garden, can, and spend time with family. Carol adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she especially loved their visits and phone calls.
She is survived by her children, Alan (Melissah) Lundeen of Karlstad, Linda (Kevin) Caird of St. Augusta, and Lisa (Allen) Hechtel of South Haven; 9 grandchildren, Andrew (Anna) Lundeen, Morganne (Kenrick) Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Samanthah Wesner, Scott (Amanda) Caird, Ryan (Kass) Caird, Melissa (Will) Heidgerken, Nicholas Caird, and Matthew (Julio) Hechtel-Yac; 13 great-grandchildren, Jessica and Thihn Thach, Liam Anderson, Giana Lundeen, Britta, Reid, Addie, Charlotte and Oliver Caird, Parker, Lyla, Logan and Tyler Heidgerken; brothers and sister, Wayne (JoAnn) Thorson of Sauk Centre, Larry (Pat) Thorson of Duluth, J.D. Thorson of Belle Plaine, IA, Paul Thorson of Minneapolis, Jerry (Jane) Thorson of Mesa, AZ, and Yvonne Henley of Sheridan, OR; sisters-in-law, Joyce Thorson of Hutchinson, Elaine Besonen of Litchfield and Lorraine Besonen of Minnetonka; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Juanita Thorson; husband, Melvin Lundeen; brother, Dale Thorson; and sister, Jean Finneman.
Carols grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. JoAnn Thorson, Diane Duncan and Doreen Thorson will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
