Walter A. Schmidt, age 93, of Annandale died Friday, January 30, 2004 at the Buffalo Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at St. John`s Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Scott Jakel officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Walter August Schmidt was born April 5, 1910 in Fairhaven Township, Stearns County to Albert and Ameila (Kramer) Schmidt. He married Amy Wadman on January 25, 1935 in South St. Paul and she preceded him in death on March 7, 1995. Walter served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He lived all of his life in the Annandale area where he did plaster and stucco work from 1948-1978 for various building contractors. He was a member of St. John`s Lutheran Church, Fairhaven Masonic Lodge #182 AF & AM, Order of the Eastern Star Vesta Chapter #68, and Maple Lake American Legion Post #131.
He is survived by children, Beverly Metz of Maple Plain, Luverne `Butch` of Elk River, Sandra Kittridge of Morgan Hill, CA, Bruce Schmidt & his wife, Teri of Annandale; brother, Arnold & his wife, Irene of Annandale; 12 grandchildren, Ted, Chris, & Brent Schmidt, Michael & Thomas Metz, Steve Brose, Catherine Schneider, Cynthia Wright, Shelby Brose, Joddi Laney, Jill Greiger, Jenny Ericksen; 26 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. His wife; daughter, Barbara Brose; daughter in law, Kathleen Schmidt; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters preceded him in death.
The pallbearers will be Walter`s six grandsons and the honorary pallbearers will be his six granddaughters.
