Obituary

Walter W. Farber, age 87 of Annandale died Friday, July 9, 2010 at St. Benedict Senior Community in St. Cloud.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Annandale. Rev. David Fretham will officiate and burial will be in First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Glencoe. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and 1 hour prior to services, Tuesday at the church. A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the charity of the donor's choice.

Walter William Farber was born April 26, 1923 in Hopkins to Charles and Frieda (Trick) Farber. He graduated from Hopkin's High School in 1942 and received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota, School of Business in 1950. Walter served his country in the Army during WWII; participating in the landing on Omaha Beach, part of the Normandy Invasion. After being wounded by enemy fire, he was a POW for 41 days. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. On July 3, 1971, Walter married Arlaine Brinkman at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He owned and operated Suburban Adjustment Company from 1979 until his retirement in 1989. Prior to that, he was employed as credit manager for Maico Hearing Instruments and the Weyerhaueser Company among others.

Walter was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale, the Richfield V.F.W. and the Richfield American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and spectator sports and in his younger years, enjoyed bowling and golf. The important things in his life were faith, family, friends and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Arlaine; children, Charles (Karen) of Bloomington, Patricia Peterson and Joan Anderson, both of Montrose; 8 grandchildren, Paul (Angie) and Kathy (Robin) Peterson, Steven, Travis and JenAC.e Anderson, Jason, Mason and Trevor Dziuk; 3 great grandchildren, Adrian, David and Nora; sister, Hazel Frank of Granite Falls; sisters-in-law, Carol Axt and Jeanette Brinkman; brother-in-law, Leon (Lorna) Brinkman. He is preceded in death by his neice, Amy Brinkman; brothers-in-law, Virgil Frank, Earl Brinkman and Darwin Axt; and his former wife, Delores (Wendell) Farber.

Pallbearers will be Paul and Robin Peterson, Steven and Travis Anderson, Christopher and Nicholas Axt. Kevin Axt and Julie Stiles, vocalists, and Julie Starke, organist will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
