Viola M. Novotne, age 91, of Phoenix, Arizona and Annandale, Minnesota died on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Amy's Assisted Living in Phoenix.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at Annandale United Methodist Church, Annandale with Pastor Paul Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Annandale. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. Memorials are preferred to the Annandale United Methodist Church.

Viola Marie Kutcher was born October 9, 1930, in Killdeer, Minnesota to Frank and Luella (McElree) Kutcher. Vi moved with her family to Waucoma, Iowa, and later to Rochester, Minnesota. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1948 and then attended junior college in Rochester. On July 15, 1950, Vi was united in marriage to David Winters. They continued to make their home in Rochester while Vi worked as a secretary for the Director of Elementary Education. They then moved to Golden Valley, where they were blessed with four daughters. They relocated for a short time to Columbus, Ohio, prior to moving to the home they designed and built on Clearwater Lake, near Annandale, in 1972. David preceded Vi in death in 1985.

For 22 years, Vi worked as a secretary for the Annandale High School, retiring in 1992. During this time, she also worked as the clerk for Corinna Township for 24 years, retiring from those duties in 2009. She volunteered as the secretary of the Clearwater Lake Property Owner's Association for 20 years. On May 18, 1991, Vi married Leland Novotne in Annandale. They continued to make their home on Clearwater Lake. Leland preceded Vi in death in 2015.

Vi moved to Anthem, Arizona in 2018 in order to be closer to some of her family. Vi enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, stamp collecting, and fishing, especially at Reed Lake in Manitoba, Canada. After retiring, Vi was able to travel across the United States, including to the Black Hills, Alaska, Mexico, and Hawaii. Vi's greatest enjoyment in life was spending time in the presence of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vi is survived by her daughters, Lynn Turley of Mayer, AZ, Julie (Lee) Aungst-Collins of Phoenix, AZ, Gail (Larry) Aungst of Phoenix, AZ, and Kristin Winters of Forest Lake, MN; stepchildren, Scott (Gina) Novotne of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and Jill (Stephen) Burt of Winona, MN; 8 grandchildren, Jocelyn Grobmeier, Megan Clifford-Knox, Melissa Aungst, Amy Lester, Amber, Ariel, and Ali Aungst, and Tyler Winters; 15 step-grandchildren, John Turley, Paula Hutsell, Cassandra Collins, Alyssa Sellen, Kinsey and Christopher Novotne, Zachary, Jacob, and David Postma, Shannon, Alicia, and Anthony Novotne, Josie Deiss, Ben Burt, and Jamie Johnson; many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and other family members and friends. Vi was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; stepson, Ted Novotne; and sister, Dorothy Fletcher.

Vi's grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Josie and Michael Deiss will provide music for the service. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
