Vernon Andring, age 78, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Friday, January 09, 2009 in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Vernon Jerome Andring was born February 28, 1930 the son of Raymond and Gertrud (Martin) Andring on the family farm near Gary, Minnesota. He attended school in Mahnomen, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1948. As a young man, Vernon served his country in the Marines during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Vernon was united in marriage to Ione Anderson on November 26, 1955 in Mahnomen. The couple made their first home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota before moving to Halstad where Vernon was employed by Hastad Engineering as a resident Engineer. Vernon was then employed by Farmers Mitchell Telephone Company in Bellingham, Minnesota. In 1967, they moved to Twin Valley where Vernon was employed at the Twin Valley-Ulen Telephone Company for the next 29 years. Vernon retired in 1995 from there as a General Manager. Ione died February 17, 2007. Vernon continued to make his home in Twin Valley until entering the Twin Valley Living Center recently due to failing health.
Over the years, Vernon was very active in his community. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church where he was also a council member for many years. He was a member of the Twin Valley American Legion, fire department in Bellingham and Twin Valley, as well as being on the Twin Valley City Council for 22 years.
Vernon loved the outdoors. His favorite past times included, fishing, hunting, gardening and woodworking.
Vernon is survived by four daughters, Diane Andring of Moorhead, MN, Lynelle (Joel) Nysetvold, Denice (Kent) Stueness and Renae (Rick) Habedank all of Twin Valley, MN; three brothers, Leonard (Joanne) Andring of Moorhead, MN, Richard (Darlene) Andring of Gary, MN and David Andring of Forest Lake, MN; four sisters, Lucille Gish of Mahnomen, MN, Claire Cook of White Bear Lake, MN, Beverly (Virgil) Amsden of St. Paul, MN, and Mary (Eugene) Moore of Waubun, MN; a sister-in-law, Doreen Andring of Lakeville, MN; ten grandchildren, Ryan, Mark, John, Matthew, Brandon, Dana, Janna, Jordan, Andrea and Austin; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Rhylee, Dylan, Isabelle, Caden and Hayden and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Arnold and William, a sister, Helen Lindberg and great-grandchildren, Alex and Taylor Dingmann.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 10:30 AM in St. William Catholic Church, Twin Valley. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 PM with a Rosary at 4:30PM and a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will also be one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Officiating will be Father Joe DeCrans and Deacon Nick Revier with Monica Winter providing music. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren with past and present employees of Arvig Communication Systems serving as honorary pallbearers. Providing military honors will be the Twin Valley Nesseth-Lien Post #431 of the American Legion.
Interment will be in St. William Catholic Cemetery, Twin Valley.
