Obituary
Vanetta M. Thompson, age 76, of Annandale died suddenly on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Annandale United Methodist Church with Rev. Ruth Hograbe officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Valley Cemetery in Shakopee. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service, Saturday, at the church. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Vanetta Mae Thompson was born on May 14, 1935 in Rock Elm, WI to Norman and Lena (White) Hanvelt. She graduated from Elmwood High School in 1953. She married Royal Thompson in Pepin, WI on August 26, 1953. They farmed for two years before moving to Red Wing, MN in 1955. They moved to Shakopee, MN in 1966. She retired after 15 years from Marquette Bank in Shakopee in May 1994.
Vanetta and Royal traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. After Royal's death in 1994, she continued to travel to Texas in the winter until moving to Annandale in 2002. In her travels, she collected spoons from every state. Her wish was to sometime go to Ireland, which she did in 2009.
Vanetta was a member of the Annandale United Methodist Church, the Annandale Red Hats Ladies, Annandale Christian Women's Group and attended monthly WCCS meetings in Cokato. She also volunteered at the Annandale Middle School security desk.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Barbara & Michael Thompson of South Haven, Linda Thompson & her fiancé Bill Plantz of Waite Park and Steven & Julie Thompson of Annandale; sister & her husband Loretta & Loren Seifert of Pepin, WI; six grandchildren & their spouses Scott & Terri Thompson, Joseph Thompson, Deanna & John Quade, John Fiihr, Laura Fiihr and Kevin Thompson; three great grandchildren Elizabeth, Audrey and Ryan. She is preceded in death by her parents Norman and Lena; husband Royal on February 16, 1994; and grandson Brett Thompson on July 16, 2008.
Pallbearers will be Scott, Joseph, Kevin and Richard Thompson, John Fiihr and John Quade. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
