Timothy C. Bernier, age 89, of Maple Lake, formerly of Chanhassen, died Friday, January 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at St. Hubert Catholic Cemetery in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Following the burial, a Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Chanhassen American Legion Post #580. Timothy C. Bernier was born May 19, 1934, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Cyril and Genevieve (Slattery) Bernier. He graduated in 1952 from Central High School in Minneapolis; he then furthered his education at Dunwoody College of Technology and completed courses at the University of Minnesota. On July 10, 1954, Tim was united in marriage to Mary Van Slyke. Together, they were blessed with four children. They raised their family in the Minneapolis and Chanhassen area and later divorced. On March 13, 1961, Tim was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps and was a supporter of the American Legion in Chanhassen. He dedicated over 40 years in his working career as a manufacturer's representative and as an electrician for electrical supplies companies; Tim also worked for the United States Postal Service. In 1992, he moved from the metro area to his cabin on Cedar Lake. In his earlier years he enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing. He was a cigar enthusiast and a coin collector. His dry wit will always be remembered and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Memories like those of Tim's ongoing battle to rid the lawn of gophers (going to lengths that even the movie Caddy Shack could not conceive of) remain family favorites. Tim is survived by his children, Suzanne Bernier of Martinsburg, WV, Stephen (Linda) Bernier of St. Bonifacius, MN, and Ann Bernier of Alexandria, VA; seven grandchildren, Brittney, Abby, Danielle, Sean, Amelia, Genevieve, and Elyse; five great-grandchildren, Jaden, Tayler, Shane, Brigette, and Quinn; and brother, Michael (Beverly) Bernier; and his former wife, Mary (Van Slyke) Bernier. He was preceded in death by his parents Cyril and Genevieve; son, Timothy Jr.; and brother, David.
