Obituary

Stanley J. Brannan, age 78 of Annandale, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale. Fr. Victor Valencia will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Heartland Hospice.

Stanley Jerome Brannan was born on January 24, 1932 to William and Olivia (Weismann) Brannan in St. Cloud, MN. He graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud with the class of 1950. On May 19, 1956, Stan was united in marriage to Marjorie Smith at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Paul. Stanley proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and the Valhalla Detachment of the Marine Corp. League. "Stan the Man" enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Stan fought a 3 year battle with his illnesses and had the Irish "never give up" spirit that he had displayed all of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marge; children, Julie (Jim) Benjamin of Prince Frederick, MD, Sheri (Tim) Boehm of Metairie, LA and Deb Brannan (Chad Wilhelm) of Cottage Grove; brothers, Jim (Joyce), Gene (Judy) and Chuck (Pat), all of Waite Park; sister, Elizabeth (Ken) Wendinger of Cold Spring; sister in law, Edna of St. Cloud; seven grandchildren, Krysten, Nicki, Patricia, Bridgitte, McKenna, Andrew and Trey; and two great grandchildren, Mimi and Natalie. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Olivia; and brothers, Mick and Pat.

Pallbearers will be Jim Benjamin, Tim Boehm, Chad Wilhelm, McKenna Porath, Dan Brannan and Mike Beaulieu. Julie Benjamin and the St. Ignatius Guitar Group will provide the music for the service. Military Honors will be provided by Marine Corps League, Valhalla Detachment. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.
