Shirley Mae Limanen was born on April 23, 1936, at home in Blowers Township, Ottertail County to William and Hilja (Sivukangas) Limanen. Shirley grew up in Sebeka, where she graduated from high school.

She was a member of Cross of Glory Church while living there. Richard passed tragically in 1978. After many years apart, they are now reunited. In 2017, Shirley moved to Annandale to be closer to family.

Shirley's career included Avon Sales until 1979 to her time as a reader at the Minnesota Clipping Service, she thrived in roles that allowed her to connect with people.

She was vibrant with her sense of style and her witty personality. Shirley enjoyed the thrill of bingo nights, playing poker, the camaraderie of bowling, and the satisfaction of completing puzzles. She had a knack for making tie blankets that warmed both body and spirit, and her adventures in agate hunting brought her immense joy. A true artistic soul, she found peace in knitting and gardening, often tending to her plants with love. She especially loved hosting Christmas Eve gatherings for family, spending weekends at Moose Lake, and cherishing time with her siblings both near home and up north. Above all, she treasured the moments spent with her family throughout the years.
