Obituary

Shirley L. McAlpine, age 92, of Maple Lake died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Pleasant Cottage of the Annandale Health & Community Services Campus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Timothy's Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake.  There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Wednesday.  Memorials are preferred to True Friends Camp Friendship.

Shirley Lou Ann McAlpine was born December 27, 1922 to Anthony and Agnes (Duckart) Dearing and graduated from Annandale High School in 1941.  She was married by Fr. Keany at St. Ignatius Catholic Church to Paul John McAlpine on October 16, 1945 and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2004.  Shirley worked in Minneapolis for Bell Telephone and for many years was the Maple Lake City Clerk.  She was a homemaker, farm wife, volunteer at Camp Friendship, and member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church.  Shirley loved to crochet and knit afghans, scarfs, and pot holders.  She was an original member of the Irish Washer Women and enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by four children & their spouses John & Rita of Maple Lake, Cathy & Gary Jude of Maple Lake, Mike & friend Donna of Salem, SC, Theresa & Ed O'Connell of St. Joseph, daughter in law Cheryl McAlpine of Big Lake, son in law Steve (Joyce) Gottsch of Nisswa, 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, sisters Pat (George) Nothnagel of Buffalo, Arlene (Dan) Tormanen of Crystal, Virginia (James) Marohn of Annandale, Jean (Jack) Hutchinson of Buffalo, brother in law Clifford Paumen of Maple Lake, also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, son Tom, daughters Barbara Gottsch & Mary Swenson, son in law Loren Swenson, grandsons Daniel McAlpine & Matthew Jude, and sisters Phyllis Trewick & Beverly Paumen.

The pallbearers will be Pat, Mark, Nathan, Cory, & Brian McAlpine, Tim & Steve Jude, and Rob & Duane Gottsch.  The honorary pallbearers will be Margaret Webb, Judy Callahan, Susie Peterson, Vicky Gries, Anne Otto, Michelle Merten, Jodi Pearce, Nicole Kalcheim, Jennifer Peterson, Kelly Stone, and Amanda Garren, the Readings will be done by Margaret Webb & Jodi Pearce, the Gift Bearers will be Brittany & Ashley Gries, the Altar Servers will be Logan & Jordan Gries and Emily Webb, the organist will be Sarah Goelz and the vocalist will be Shannon Paumen.  The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
