Sherrill E. Smith, age 82, of 11965 State Highway 15, Kimball died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at his home after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006 at St. John`s Lutheran Church, Kimball with Rev. Dave Milz officiating. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Friday.
Sherrill E. Smith was born May 15, 1923 in Meeker County to Emmett and Grace (Pancake) Smith. He attended Kimball Schools and in his early years worked for the Soo Line Railroad. He married Eva Schacht on March 1, 1952 in St. John`s Lutheran Church, Kimball. In the late 1960`s he owned & operated the Duck Inn, Fair Haven and then the Welcome Inn, Kimball. From 1971-1986 he owned & operated Sherrill Smith Bus Co. for Kimball Schools. He was a member of St. John`s Lutheran Church.
Sherrill`s true passion was his garden. Gardening was his love, pride and joy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and playing cards. He enjoyed being with his family and friends. Sherrill`s family and friends will sadly miss his repetitious conversations, reapings from his garden and the deep kindness within him.
He is survived by his wife, Eva of Kimball; children & their spouses, Penny & Virgil Lovejoy of South Haven, Patty Wittenberg of South Haven, Tammy Smith of St. Cloud, Terry Smith of South Haven, Jeff Smith of Albertville, Nia & Randy Meierhofer of Watkins; sisters, Shirley (Warren) Pramann of Crystal, Vera Nordeen of Minneapolis; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie Huff, Michelle (Clyde) Marquette, Stacy Huff, Sara (Joe) Krippner, Justine & Blaine Meierhofer, Amanda Wittenberg; also 4 great grandchildren, Maggie Kolbe, Adam & Levi Marquette, and Caitlin Krippner. He was preceded in death by toddler son Randy, sisters Berle Steele & Zelda Heaton, son in laws Larry Wittenberg & Keith Widmark.
The pallbearers will be Glen Bennett, Duane Vinar, Neal Loudon, Gary VanNurden, David Mackereth and Marshall Werner. The organist for the service will be Nancy Oswald and the arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Kimball.
