Scott W. Picken, age 71, of Annandale, died unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at his home while battling cancer. Scott William Picken was born on April 14, 1954, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Charles and Edith (Anderson) Picken, the fourth of eight children. He spent his early years in Alvarado, Minnesota, and his family later relocated to Annandale, where his father took a teaching job. Scott graduated from Annandale High School in 1972, and a few years after, he married the love of his life, Carol E. Jung, on April 26, 1975, in Minneapolis. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their three daughters in Annandale. Scott's career began at Payco, but it was his 30+ years as the maintenance director at the Annandale Care Center that truly defined his career. Known for his unwavering commitment, he ensured a safe and welcoming environment for countless residents and staff alike.
Scott was a pillar of the Annandale Fire Department. For over 40 years, he selflessly served the Annandale and surrounding communities. Over the years, he served in the leadership roles of Trainer, Assistant Chief, and Chief. He also took on the role of gambling manager for Annandale Fire Relief. In his younger years he was a member of the Jaycees. His dedication extended to North Ambulance, where he volunteered for more than two decades. In all he did, Scott gave his time, energy, and heart - embodying what it means to be a true community servant. He found joy in spending time outdoors, camping, golfing, and cheering on his children and grandchildren at their events. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed the thrill of the races, but most importantly, he treasured the moments spent with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol of Annandale; daughter, Tana (Kirk) Crowell of Annandale, Michelle (Ty) Howard of Annandale, and Tracy (Zach) Berhow of Shakopee; 10 grandchildren, Elijah, Aliyah, Maggie, Rayna, Lauren, Darius, Julia, Waylon, Baylor, and Bristol; great-grandson, Harrison; siblings, Dick (Pam) of Watertown, SD, Craig (Bonnie) of St. Cloud, Linda (Joel) Hentges of Annandale, Mark (Pat) of Navarre, Sheila (Neil) Glick of North Carolina, and Jeffrey (Kristen) of Appleton, WI; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, his Annandale Fire Department family, and friends. Scott was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joel.
