Russell G. Huro, age 84, of Annandale, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Foley Nursing Center.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Orval Wirkkala officiating. Burial will follow at the Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Russell George Huro was born October 3, 1927 in Kingston to George and Mabel (Isaacson) Huro. He was baptized and confirmed at the Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Church. Russell served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Violet Starkka in 1954 in Des Moines, IA. Together, they lived in Minneapolis until moving to Annandale in 1965. Russ worked for many years for Marvin Anderson Construction as a heavy equipment operator, retiring from the construction trade in 1990. He was a member of the Local 49ers Union and the Kimball American Legion Post 261. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, cross words puzzles, his kitty and cruising the countryside.
He is survived by his two sons Bud Garthe and Dale Huro (friend, Maggie Kiernan), all of Annandale; three sisters Doris Dorman of Kimball, Carol (Bob) Fischer of Dassel and Virginia Schaaf of Kingston; 3 grandchildren John, Carrie (friend, Mike Keaton) and Mike Garthe (friend Tracy Stueven); and one great grandchild Danielle Garthe. He is preceded in death by his wife Violet; parents George and Mabel; brother Jerry Huro; and nephews Dean Dorman and Ben Schaaf.
