Russell J. Baker, age 76, of Maple Lake died Thursday, June 30, 2005 at the Buffalo Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Mark Huberty officiating. Burial will follow in St. Timothy`s Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Maple Lake American Legion and VFW. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service 8 p.m. Monday.
Russell J. Baker was born February 18, 1929 at Maple Lake to the late Marvin and Bernice (Smith) Baker. He graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1947 and began his employment at Security State Bank, Maple Lake. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married Lorene F. Howard on May 23, 1953 at St. Timothy`s Catholic Church. Russ has served Security State Bank for the past 53 years as teller, loan officer, vice president, president and currently as a member of the Board of Directors, retiring as a full time employee in 1986. He enjoyed Maple Lake Laker Baseball as a player, manager and as a fan. He was a former member of School District #881 Board of Directors and was Board Chairman during the building of the current High School. Russ was a long time member of the Maple Lake Fire Dept. and was the treasurer for most of those years. He is a member of St. Timothy`s Church, Maple Lake Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post #131 and VFW Post #7664.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene of Maple Lake; 3 children, Alan of Brookings, SD, Jerry (Sherri) of Pearl Lake, Pam (Marc) Elvy of Seattle, WA; 4 grandchildren, Sarah, Steve, Dave & Nick Baker; sisters & brothers, Betty Elsen of Loretto, Mona Andresen of New Hope, Jerry (Edna) Baker of Aitken, Robert (Jean) Baker of Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada; half sisters, Joan (Steve) Bakke of Annandale, Linda (Mike) MacDonald of Rockford.
The pallbearers will be Cliff Blizil, Jr., Mel & Todd Borell, Harold Brutlag, Daryl Hennen, and Bart Lauer. Marge Pavlik, organist and the St. Timothy`s Resurrection Choir will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
