Ronald Clayton Greely, age 66, of St. Michael, formerly of Aurora and Kimball died Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Buffalo Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Kimball Church of Christ with Rev. Vern Harris officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Ron was raised in Kimball. His parents were Phyllis (Cook) Greely Hoeft and Clayton Greely. Ron lived life to the fullest. Growing up, he and his sisters Jane and Carol helped his family publish the Tri-County News, he was active in church and loved sports. He married Valerie Nagle and enjoyed his family with four children: Lori, Troy, Trent and Ted. He developed and managed Powder Ridge Ski Area for 20 years and owned and operated the Cine-Buff Drive-In in Buffalo and the Kim-Hi Drive-In in Kimball with his family. He was an active member in the community with a heart for developing the Kimball area. Ron loved his family and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren's activities. He enjoyed spending time traveling, listening to music, and finding the most unique food and trip locations.
He remarried Nellie 'Jo' Hightower and moved to Aurora where he spent 19 years managing and developing Giants Ridge Ski and Golf Resort. He was referred to as 'Doc Snow' at Giants Ridge; known for his snowmaking and innovative ideas he brought to the ski area. The ski business was his work and passion. He spent many years as an active member of the National Ski Area Association and Midwest Ski Association. He made many friends and helped promote the sport of skiing in the Midwest throughout his life. He retired in 2003.
He was a loving caregiver for Jo and they resided in St. Michael. She died in May of 2006. He most recently moved to Park Terrace Assisted Living and Memory Care in Buffalo in October of 2007.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Lori (Timothy) Rice of Kimball; sons, Troy (Cheryl) of Plymouth, Trent (Shelly) of Crosby and Ted (Annette) of St. Michael; step children, Lisa (Rodney) Hazel of Greensboro, NC, Stefanie (Jeff) Nimick of St. Charles, IL, Karen (Adrian) Newis of Greensboro, NC, Angie Lakoskey of Mesa, AZ, and Bryan (Kelly) Price of Albertville; sisters, Carol Griepentrog of Willmar and Jane Gripentrog of Eden Prairie; 12 grandchildren, Ryan, Raymen, Riley, Mikayla, Drew, Noelle, Dean, Greg, Shauna, Elijah, Amber and Kaia; and 12 step grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Nellie 'Jo'.
Pallbearers will be Troy, Trent, Ted and Drew Greely and Lori Rice. Janet Eckman, pianist and Ryan Rice, soloist will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Kimball.
