Roger L. Nilson, age 76, of Annandale died Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Dave Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at St. John's Lutheran Church from 5-7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services. There will be a prayer service 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Roger Louis Nilson was born August 15, 1936 in Southside Township, Wright County to Emil and Laura (Pick) Nilson. He was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a lifetime member. He attended Annandale Schools where he worked for a time as a janitor before going to Minneapolis to work. He married Marilyn Boehl on July 29, 1967 in Paynesville. He then farmed near Annandale and for the past 20 years was a heavy equipment operator for Annandale Rock Products. He enjoyed farming, cutting & selling firewood, fishing, spearing, trapping, attending high school basketball games, trips to Duluth, and time spent with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Annandale, children Todd Nilson (Stephanie) of South Haven, Dean Nilson (Tricia) of Richmond, Janelle Nilson (Bill Berry) of Annandale, grandchildren Katlynn, Brittney, Ethan, Madilynn, Jacob, Connor, Austin & Ezra, sisters & brothers Alice Wolfe (John) of Eaton, CO, Elaine Engen (Conrad) of New York Mills, Maynard Nilson (Betty) of South Haven, Maurice Nilson (Jeanne) of Olathe, KS, Floss Nilson of Hutchinson, Rosemary Nilson Armitage (Ralph) of Loveland, CO, David Nilson of Deer River, his beloved dog Daisy, also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Stanley, Arvid, Paul & Harold, parents in law Erwin & Viola Boehl, brothers in law Arnold Gunderson, Lynn Pearson & Wesley Boehl, sisters in law Sonja Sonnenfeld & Betty Boehl, nieces Heidi Gust, Dawn Fobbe & Susan Belan.
The pallbearers will be Maynard, Maurice, David, Todd & Dean Nilson, and Bill Berry. The music for the service will be provided by Maurice Nilson, Terry Sonnenfeld, and Orma Lou Jacobsma. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
