Obituary

Robert J. Szczesny, age 62, of Maple Lake, MN died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Buffalo Hospital following a four year courageous battle with cancer.  He was a devoted husband & father and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Maple Lake with Rev. Peter Martinson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Maple Lake Community Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and at the Church one hour prior to services.  There will be a prayer service 6:30 p.m. Thursday.  Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Mayo Clinic Foundation.

Robert James Szczesny was born May 19, 1949 in Jackson, MI to the late Thaddeus 'Ted' and Eugenia 'Jennie' (Job) Szczesny.  He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and was a 1967 graduate of Jackson High School.  He attended Ferris State College in Big Rapids, MI then served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War.  He married Lonna Barnes on August 5, 1972 in Perry, IA and graduated in 1976 from Michigan Tech University, Houghton, MI with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  Bob worked for 34 years in Iowa, Michigan & the Twin Cities supervising water treatment projects nationally & internationally.  He was a member of the Professional Water Treatment Assn, National Rifle Assn, Muskie's Inc, Bassmasters, and Pheasants Forever.  He was an avid outdoors sportsman and attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church & St. Timothy's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Lonna of Maple Lake, daughter Sami of Maple Lake, brother Ted (Diana) Szczesny of Addison, MI, sisters Cathy (Chuck) Walker of Jackson, MI, Anne (Marlin) Carpenter of Huntsburg, OH, also several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins.

The pallbearers will be Ted Szczesny, Matthew Walker, Joseph Brinza, Ward Stidham, Allan Dale, and Dennis Petersen.  The music for the service will be country gospel provided by Jeremy Petersen and Holy Cross Lutheran Church.  The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
