Richard "Dick" M. Winchell, age 86, of Annandale, died at his home on Thursday, April 30, 2015 surrounded by the love of his family while receiving hospice care.
Memorial Services will be held 10:30 am Monday , May 4, 2015, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Tom Heyd officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Burial be 2:30 pm on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Richard Martin Winchell was born October 24, 1928 in French Lake Township to Wendell and Mildred (Eidsmo) Winchell. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Minneapolis. Dick graduated high school from Minneapolis Roosevelt and then attended Dunwoody to become an electrician. Dick proudly served our country during the Korean War as a paramedic in the Army. He received the Korean War Service Medal for his honorable service. He was united in marriage to Joanne Skinner at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley on December 16, 1978. Dick worked for Lagerquist Elevator and Lift Services for 32 years before he retired.
Dick was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he often volunteered for various church activities. He was also a member of Maple Lake Legion Post #131 and Maple Lake VFW Post #7664. During his membership, Dick served on the honor guard. He was also a member of the Annandale Snowmobile Club and the Union Local #9. During his free time, Dick enjoyed golfing, gardening and traveling. Dick always cherished the quality time he was able to spend with his family and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joanne of Annandale; children and their spouses, Linda and Michael Keim of Hastings, MN, Susan Harman of Long Beach, California, Cheryl and Charlie Johnson of Roseville, MN, and Steven and Mary Westerberg of Crystal, MN; 8 grandchildren, Katy, Riana, Chris, Kelly Ali, Chelsea, Alison, and Benny; 6 great grandchildren, Mya, Carter, Deacon, Cody, Winston, and Wyatt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendel and Mildred and brother, Cecil. A special Thank You to Norah Poepping and Jackie Streich with Guardian Angels Hospice.
Steven Westerberg, Mike Keim, Charlie Johnson and Ben Johnson will serve as urnbearers. Orma Lou Jacobsma and Rev. Dave Nelson will serve as musicians. Military Honors will be provided by the Minnesota Army National Guard and the Maple Lake VFW and American Legion Posts. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
