Obituary
Mr. Richard E. Smith, age 82, of Annandale died Friday August 30, 2002 at the Hilltop Care Center, Watkins.
Funeral services were held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Thomas Queck officiating and Kathy Queck, organist. Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis
Richard Edward Smith was born March 26, 1920 in Spokane, WA to Percy and Esther (Johnson) Smith. He married Bessie L. Van Ast January 18, 1944 in Camp Pickett, VA and she preceded him in death April 10, 1993. Richard served his country in the US Army from 1939 until retiring as a Major in 1959. He worked as a purchasing agent for Yale Engineers and Williams Steel & Hardware, Minneapolis, retiring in 1973. He lived in Minneapolis before moving to Annandale in 1973. Richard loved his family, gardening, fishing, woodworking, and listening to big band music.
He is survived by sons, John (Fatima) Smith of Louisa, VA, Richard Smith of Woodland CA; daughter, Judy (Dave) Fenstra of Watkins; brother, Kenny Smith of IL; sister, June (George) Berry-Hill of OR; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale, Minnesota.
