Richard Leroy Elliott, age 83, of Annandale died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at his home in Annandale with his family at his side.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Annandale Evangelical Free Church, Annandale, with Pastor Denny Johnson officiating. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24 at Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery near Little Falls. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday for one hour prior the funeral service on Tuesday at the church.
Richard Leroy Elliott was born March 24, 1933 in Minneapolis to Lester and Charlotte (Carlson) Elliott. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. In 1951, Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country until 1952. On July 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Alice Marie Jacobsen at Bethel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
Richard owned and operated a Shell gas station in North East Minneapolis in the '60s. He moved his family to Annandale when he purchased Elliott's Truck Stop. Dick later became the Chief of Police for the city of Annandale, retiring from the Department in 1979 after over 10 years of service. He then became the Police Chief for the city of Brooten. In 1984, he moved to Las Vegas where he was the head of security at Landmark Casino and Hotel. In 1990, Richard moved back to Annandale.
Dick was a former member of the Annandale Fire Department and the Annandale Lions. He enjoyed going to the casino, going for a drive, listening to outdoor music, singing hymns, joking, teasing and pheasant hunting. Richard loved his church, his family and being with his wife, Alice.
He is survived by his wife Alice of Annandale; children Linda (Chuck) Yanish of Kimball, Debbie (Tim) Watkins of Annandale, Cheryl Elliott of Annandale, Mark (Mary "Ginger") Elliott of Rice and Michelle (Steve) Robinson on Brooklyn Park; eleven grandchildren Lisa, Jerry, Matt, Justin, Jarrid, Jordan, Ryan, Shane, Dustin, Bryton and Daniel; and eighteen great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Charlotte Elliott; grandson Jason Elliott; sister LaVonne Day; and brother Don Elliott.
The casket bearers will be Jerry Yanish, Paul Bredeson, Jarrid Elliott, Jordan Elliott, Ryan Pearcy and Matt Watkins. Phyllis Johnson and JoAnn Quandt will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
