Richard "Rick" Eccless, age 76, of Maple Lake, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Maple Lake American Legion, with a 2:00 p.m. Remembrance Service. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clearwater. Memorials are preferred to the Silver Creek Sportsman's Club.
Richard William Eccless was born on February 3, 1950, in Saint Cloud, Minnesota to William and Elaine (Post) Eccless. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silver Creek. Rick grew up in Clearwater and graduated from Annandale High School in 1968. In 1975, he settled in Maple Lake, Minnesota, where he has made his home since. For over 39 years, Rick was employed at Cardinal Health in Champlin, from which he retired in 2015.
He was a lifelong member of the Silver Creek Sportsman's Club, serving as a board member and past president. Rick's hobbies included golfing, hunting, and fishing. He was also a proud participant and judge of demolition derbies at the Wright County Fair.
Rick was known for his sense of humor, often delighting and/or annoying family and friends with an array of jokes that began with the classic, "Did you hear the one about..." Even when the punchlines missed the mark, his laughter was contagious.
He is survived by his children, William "Bill" of Maple Lake, Todd (Jaclyn) of Big Lake, and Heidi (Aaron) Scadden of Monticello; stepchildren, Stephanie, Chris, and Michelle Kolb, Pam (Les) Dahlheimer, and Nicole (Chris) Hagberg; 4 grandchildren, Alex and Austin Eccless, and Riley and Danielle Scadden; 1 great-grandchild, Ezra Scadden; siblings, Bonnie (Dan) Paumen of Maple Lake, David (signficant other, Sue) of Clearwater, and Michelle of Minnetonka; and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Rick was preceded in death by his parents.
