Richard "Rick" Berens, age 56, of Buffalo died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, February 15, 2013 at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Monticello with Fr. Tony Vanderloop officiating. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to Wounded Warrior Project.
Richard Alan Berens was born November 26, 1956 in Shakopee to the late Leonard and Dolores (Kearney) Berens. He was a graduate of Prior Lake High School and Anoka Ramsey Community College. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. Rick was an entrepreneur working in real estate development and auctions. He was a consultant and an active investor in energy related development. Rick was a member of the Minnesota Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame and life member of the Prior Lake VFW.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman. He was passionate about big game hunting throughout North America, deep sea fishing in Alaska for halibut and salmon, and hiking the mountains of his home in big sky Montana. Rick looked forward to sitting around a campfire, sharing stories of hunts with young and old alike, and filling the night with laughter.
Rick is survived by his wife Renee of Buffalo, brothers & sisters Doreen (Dave) Suelter of Zimmerman, Margie (Randy) Corbin of Margate, FL, Ed (Shelly) of Faribault, Anne (Randy) Hansen of Milwaukee, Bob (Jolene) of Red Lodge, MT, Joe of Red Lodge, MT, and Lenny (Vicky) of New Prague.
Pallbearers will be Vince Bachman, Bob Berens, Sterling Weinzetl, Bob Kadrlik, Frank Imholte and Logan Smed. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
