Raynold J. Winter, age 90, of Maple Lake died Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the VA Medical Center, St. Cloud.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2008 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Michael Izen officiating. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Watkins. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service 6 p.m. Thursday.

Raynold John Winter was born March 15, 1918 at Watkins to Conrad and Elizabeth (Meierhofer) Winter. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, was captured during the Battle of the Bulge, was a POW in Germany the last five months of the War and received the Bronze Star for valor. He married Catherine Klein also of Watkins on September 24, 1946. In Watkins Ray worked for Kraft Foods as a cheese maker. In 1958 they moved to Maple Lake where he worked for Tem Tee Dairy. He loved baseball, playing and managing the Lakers for many years. He is a member of the Northstar Baseball Hall of Fame. He always followed the Twins and on the Metrodome field this past spring received the StrokeOut survivor of the year. Ray loved to hunt and fish with his sons and brother. He was a member of St. Timothy's Church, Fr. O'Briens Council Knights of Columbus 3613, Catholic Order of Foresters, Central Minnesota POW's, VFW Post 7664, and American Legion Post 131.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Maple Lake; children & their spouses, Sandy Brooks & Wally Winsor of Champlin, Steve & Pat of Custer, SD, Sheila & Rick Benson of Buffalo, Scott & Jean of Grand Rapids, Sharon & Sheldon Fertig of Waverly, Suzanne Daniels of Robbinsdale; brother, Norbert & his wife Gert of Watkins; 13 grandchildren, Marilyn (Brooks) & Randy Blasus, Patty (Brooks) & Dan Knott, Travis & Lynette Winter, Craig & Jaime Winter, Angie (Benson) & Kevin Conn, Katie (Benson) & Chris Graham, Lindsay Benson, Jill Winter, Keith & Rachelle Winter, Sheldon Fertig, Shane & Kristina Fertig, Alexandra & Isabelle Daniels; 10 great grandchildren, Matt, Samantha, & Carissa Knott, Cammille Gabriel, Graelyn, Lincoln, Gibson, Nathasha, & Annaliese Winter, and Ryan Fertig; and a great great granddaughter, Rachel Knott. An infant daughter, SueEllen, 2 brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death.

The pallbearers will be Travis & Keith Winter, Patty Knott, Alexandra Daniels, Lindsay Benson, and Sheldon Fertig. Marge Pavlik, organist and the St. Timothy's Resurrection Choir will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
