Obituary

Raymond C. Schermer died May 19, 2006 at the age of 80 at the Park View Care Center after suffering from a massive stroke on May 6th. He lived his entire life in rural Silver Creek Township, where he was born on April 8th, 1926 to Cornelius Schermer and Wilhelmina (Mol) Schermer. Ray graduated from Annandale High School in 1943 and then attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture. On August 25th, 1950, Ray married Lucile Vandergon at the Silver Creek Reformed Church.

Farming and family were Ray`s life. Ray and his father ran a dairy farm for many years. Following in their tradition, his 2 sons, Terry and Paul, farmed with him for many years after that. In the late 60`s and 70`s, Ray was president of the local chapter of the National Farmers Organization. In 1977, Ray began his substitute rural mail carrier position, until he retired in 1990. He was the carrier for Maple Lake rural route two.

Ray was a hardworking, generous man, loved by many friends and family. He was a devoted Christian and a long time member of the Silver Creek Reformed Church and more recently a member of the Annandale Free Church. He served on church boards and committees most of his adult life. His hobbies included golf and antique cars.

In 1977 he and his sons built a 1936 Jaguar convertible fiberglass kit car, which he was able to drive in many parades. His grandchildren and children were the joy of his life.

Ray is survived by his wife, Lucile of Maple Lake; children & their spouses, Jonathan & Sandy (Schermer) Thomas of Maple Lake, Terryl & Susan (Struble) Schermer of Annandale, Doug & Becky (Schermer) Foreman of Maple Lake, Paul & Rhonda (Geisinger) Schermer of Maple Lake, Kevin & Heidi (Schermer) Greniger of Maple Lake; sister, Janette Kamp & her husband Thomas of Bloomington; 16 grandchildren, Bethannie (Thomas) & Chad Raiche, Melanie Thomas, Phillip Thomas, David, Jennifer & Jaclyn Schermer, Alissa, Tanya, Tyler, Ted & Klava Foreman, Christopher & Stephanie Schermer, Chelsea (Greniger) & Jim Clements, Hope & Ian Greniger; also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at the Annandale Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Doug Foreman and Rev. Art Stenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Creek Township. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Monday with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating.

The pallbearers will be Phillip Thomas, David & Christopher Schermer, Tyler & Ted Foreman, and Ian Greniger. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
