Raymond H. Hunz Sr., age 91 of Annandale died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Guardian Angels of Elk River surrounded by the love of his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale with Fr. Victor Valencia officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Memorials are preferred to Guardian Angels of Elk River.
Raymond Henry Hunz was born December 26, 1922 in Plymouth, MN to Henry Joseph and Gertrude (Roash) Hunz. Ray was raised in Plymouth where he attended school. He worked as a farmer until he was 25 years old. On April 22, 1944 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Lucille Lillian Meyer at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Wayzata. Ray then worked at the Moline machine shop in Hopkins, before he began his 27 years of employment with District #284 in Wayzata. While being employed for Wayzata School District #284, Ray worked as a bus driver, truck driver, and other various courier jobs. In 1984 Ray retired, and he and Lucille moved to Annandale and have resided since.
Ray was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus at St. Bartholomew's in Wayzata. He enjoyed dancing with Lucille at the Medina Ballroom, playing cards, watching soap operas in his retirement years, and catch and release fishing. Ray liked traveling with Lucille, especially to Jackpot Junction on the Monday bus to play slot machines. Above all, Ray treasured the time he spent with his family.
Ray is survived by children, Bonnie (David) Cornelius of Albertville, Shirley (Dick) Engstrom of Dayton, Ron Hunz of Anchorage, and Mike Hunz of Buffalo; 8 grandchildren, Neil, Shawn, Jocelyn, Tyler, Jackie, Jennie, Jeremy and Natasha; 12 great grandchildren; and other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lucille; son, Raymond Hunz Jr., daughter-in-law, Jill Hunz, parents, Henry & Gertrude, and brothers, Joe and George.
The pallbearers will be Neil Engstrom, Shawn Cornelius, Jerry Holm, Fred Busch, Bob Greiger, Tyler Hunz, and Brian Cornelius. The music for the service will be provided by St. Ignatius Music Ministry. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
