Phyllis I. Oberg Gettle, age 83 of Bloomington, formerly of Kimball, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Kimball United Methodist Church with Rev. Luke Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to the service, Tuesday, at the church. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Phyllis Ilean Gettle was born May 17, 1928 in Summerdale, PA to Arthur and Dorothy (Messimer) Albert. She was united in marriage on July 15, 1945 to Alfred A. Oberg in Shirmantown, PA and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1978. On January 5, 1991, she was married to Wilfred S. Gettle in Kimball.
Phyllis lived in Summerdale, PA area until 1945, when she moved to Kimball with her husband Al. Together, they built, owned & operated the Kimball Ballroom. Phyllis went on to own & manage Oberg's Clothing Store in Kimball, cook & manage at the Kimball Golf Club and to bartend & manage at the Kimball Liquor Store. She was a member of the Kimball United Methodist Church, where she was active for many years. She was also a member of the Kimball Eastern Star. Phyllis loved music, playing the piano and the organ were her therapy in life. She enjoyed making crafts, sewing, knitting, golfing, dancing, cooking and baking.
She is survived by her daughter, Patti Kluge of Lakeville; daughter in law, Karen Oberg of Annandale; sisters and brothers, Doris Potteiger of Carlisle, PA, Arthur (Minnie) Albert of Hemet, CA; five grandchildren Twila, Larry, Sean, Brian and Kimberly; and fifteen great grandchildren Matt, Erika, Mitch, Tim, Griffin, Gavin, Justin, Josh, Megan, Johnny, Matthew, Emma, Lucy, Molly and Jake. She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Dorothy; husband Al; son John Oberg; great grandson Adam Otto; and sisters Betty Nelson and Gloria Kohr.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Ecklund, Erika Ecklund, Justin Oberg, Mitchell Valli, Timothy Harkess and Josh Oberg. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care, Kimball.
