Phyllis E. Ekert, age 83, of Annandale died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Annandale Care Center.
Memorial Services will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale with Chaplain Ronald Freeman officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the Annandale Care Center.
Phyllis Ethel Ekert was born November 20, 1928 in Pollock, SD to Henry and Emma (Ketterling) Backhaus. She grew up near Alexandria, then moved to Minneapolis, Maple Lake, and finally to Annandale. On June 11, 1949, Phyllis was united in marriage to Hubert Ekert at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Phyllis was a Super Mom. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, cooking, baking, playing piano and accordion, singing and was a huge Minnesota Twins fan.
She is survived by her children & their spouses Jerry & Rosemary of Kailua Kona, HI, Roger & Jan of South Haven, Bonnie & Steve Badial of Clearwater, Brian & Joanne of Champlin, Brenda & Brad Melchert of Becker, Brad & Kathy of Jordan and Bruce & Terri of Motley; brother Delmer Backhaus & his wife Nancy of St. Michael; sister Esther Huisingh of St. Paul; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert; parents Henry and Emma; brothers Walter, Clarence and Arnold Backhaus; and sister Shirley Ogren.
