Obituary

Othmar "Ottie" Rohe, age 89, of Kimball, Minnesota passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Cokato Manor with family by his side.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Mary Hall, which is next to St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Weyrens as Celebrant. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Wendelin Cemetery.  Everyone is invited to Mary Hall after the burial for lunch and sharing of memories. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated for Alzheimer's research.

Othmar Henry Rohe was born March 29, 1934, in St. Rosa, Minnesota to Herman Sr. and Bernadine (VanHeel) Rohe. Ottie grew up on a farm in St. Rosa and went on to serve our country in the United States Army. While he was in the service, Ottie was united in marriage to Hildegard Klaphake at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, Minnesota on August 27, 1956. They raised their three daughters while Ottie worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in the Twin Cities. Ottie went on to become the Postmaster in several towns in Minnesota, eventually retiring from the post office in Sartell, Minnesota. Ottie enjoyed giving of his time as a volunteer at various places including most recently at the Whitney Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  Ottie also helped Hildegard make quilts and he loved to go fishing and camping. Ottie found great joy being in the presence of his family; playing cards or games, teasing them, helping with house or car projects or farm work and traveling.

Ottie is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Hildegard; daughters, Marlene (Terry) Walters of N. St. Paul, Joan Dragos of Oakdale and Karen (Mark) Simmer of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Cassandra Sauerwein, Wayne (April) Walters, Mathew (Amanda) Dragos, Amanda (Noah) Schulman, Marae Simmer, Jacqueline (Peter) Simmer Bering, Tyler Simmer and Luke Simmer; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Dorine) Rohe; and many other family members and friends. Ottie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herman Rohe Jr. and Vernon Rohe; sisters, Valeria Locnikar and baby Mary; and many other family members and friends.
