Norman R. Osterby, age 86, of Annandale died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the VA Medical Center, Minneapolis.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Annandale United Methodist Church with Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the Church. There will be a Masonic Service 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are preferred to the Annandale United Methodist Church.

Norman Robert Osterby was born May 3, 1922 in Corinna Township, Wright County to John and Effie (Thuleen) Osterby. He was a 1940 graduate of Annandale High School and then the next year served in the Civil Conservation Corps. He served in the Southwest Pacific in the U.S. Army during WW II. Norm was a scout and rifleman as a member of Troop B, 7th Cavalry. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a Civil Engineer for the MN Dept. of Transportation and retired in 1984 as an assistant commissioner in the MN Dept. of Administration. Norm coordinated all design work for the metro area interstate highway system. After his retirement he served on the Governor's Council on Fire Prevention & Control and as the Wright County Representative to the Highway Jurisdiction Policy Commission. Norm was a member & Past President of NCSBCS and the 1st Cavalry Division Assn. He was a member of Annandale United Methodist Church, Fairhaven Masonic Lodge 182 AF & AM, Maple Lake VFW Post 7664, National Rifle Assn., Torske Klubben, and Saga Klubben. He enjoyed woodcutting & splitting, hunting, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Margaret 'Peg' of Annandale; children, Erik Osterby (Heidi) of Buffalo, Krisan Osterby Benson (Jay) of Excelsior; granddaughter, Kaijsa Benson of Excelsior; step son, Greg Olson (Connie) of Hopkins; step grandchildren, Katie, Lynn, Matt & Adam; step great grandchildren, Kelsey, Joseph, Matthew, Megan, Joshua & Andrew. His brother Warren preceded him in death.

The arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
